Traditionally applications were built from scratch. This is a time consuming process as there is very little reuse of code and every application has to be designed and a lot of code that may exist in the organization rewritten. In this blog I would like to share my experience in assembling applications reusing code and designs. The data and object model leverages industry standard models. We have realized dramatic savings in time and cost using this method.

Assembling applications just got easy
We just finished assembling a new business and underwriting application for speciality insurance in 3 months. This included a substantial extension of the object model to support a new line of business and also developing 6 new components in addition to reusing pre-built components. The application functionality included workflow using BPEL and document management using Alfresco. The total effort was around 90 Man months. I will publish metrics in terms of the application size in my next blog. The application was deployed in a Websphere Portal, Process server, Application server, Alfresco, SUN LDAP and DB2 environment.
