These applications have typically addressed front office requirements like Agent and self service portals. These portals provide information in a single view even though the source of information is from many siloed back end systems. They also allow the user to initiate certain business processes to support sales or customer service. One of the inherent features of these applications is that new products and channels can be introduced without having to rewrite the code as the design paradigm allows for defining product, channel and customer specific information and rules.
